Anna and Alex, two Erasmus students, are the main characters in the Finnish E-LOCAL course. Anna and Alex arrive in Rovaniemi, a university town at the Arctic Circle in northern Finland.

Anna and Alex are welcomed to the country by Finnish students Lauri and Jenni. Later on, their learning process is supported by Finnish teachers Jussi and Helena.

You will follow Anna and Alex in their adventures at the Arctic Circle and discover the Finnish language and culture with them.

In each unit, you will find a story encompassing seven situations and a comprehension quiz at the end; grammar explanations along with related exercises; cultural sections and information on daily life; language exercises to strengthen your vocabulary and communicative aspects of learning. After reading the cultural texts, the cultural exercises put your memory to test. However, some cultural questions may even extend beyond the texts and test your skills in making associations or searching for information.

Wherever considered necessary, you will find a specific glossary, but please remember that you always have the Overall Glossary at your disposal as well. It contains the entire vocabulary used on the course. The Overall Grammar is another useful tool containing all grammatical explanations of the course.

You should be expected to spend on average 60–75 hours doing on-line activities to achieve the learning objectives of the course, which correspond to level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). But keep in mind that e-learning is a flexible method: both the amount of time and its distribution are up to you. The more time you devote to the course and the more regularly you attend it, the better you will learn Finnish.

Are you ready to start your adventure? We wish you a pleasant discovery!
